Intro to Herbalism: Self Care Series

Invite more plants into your life this winter by way of infusions, smoke cleansing, sprouts, or stitches in this six week series. Diving deep into self-care every Sunday from 10-12:00. Exploring ritual and intention through plant ceremony and daily routine. Revealing the sacred in the everyday.

Each week we will sit co-creatively, developing skills that deepen our relationship with ourselves and the Earth. Via hands-on, personalized make'n'takes using locally sourced materials. Walking away with items such as: wildcrafted teas, hand bound plant prayer stick + fan, herbal infused body oil, sprout growing kit, trademark free fire cider, and hand embroidered sachet. 

More importantly, walking away with a communal sense of healing and skills that can last (heal) a lifetime.

WEEK ONE : Jan 27th
— WILDCRAFTING + TEA AS MEDITATION
Discuss the ethics and process of mindful wild harvesting. Get to know common medicinal plants, that probably grow in your backyard. Understand simple ways to incorporate these plant allies into everyday life; such as tea. We will explore the practice of tea as meditation.

WEEK TWO : Feb 3rd
— SUSTAINABLE SMOKE CLEANSING + FAN MAKING
Opening talk about increase interest in smudging. Including the environmental concerns and cultural relevance that have been sparked by said interest. Defining the difference between smoke cleansing and smudging. Highlighting the over harvest of white sage, while shining light on other local plants that can be used in plant prayer sticks. Bundling plants in prayer, as well as handcrafting small smoke fans with Michigan peacock and turkey feathers.

WEEK THREE : Feb 10th 
— BODY OILING + SIMPLE INFUSIONS
Introduction to the traditional healing ritual of body oiling. Dipping into techniques on how to make simple herbal infused oils. Learn about pairing herbs for specific aliments and general benefits of self massage. A easy, yet extremely effective form of self care.

WEEK FOUR : Feb 17th 
— WINTER TIME GREENS: HOMEGROWN SPROUTS
Grow the freshest, most nutrient dense foods in the world for pennies. No mess and minimal light required. Worshipping the gift of greens in the winter time with homegrown sprouts. Discuss physical and emotional benefits that come with growing your own fresh food in the heart of harsh Michigan winters!

WEEK FIVE : Feb 24th
— TRADEMARK FREE FIRE CIDER
Continuing with the theme of food as medicine with the folk remedy, fire cider. A term that has stoked controversy in the herbal community after being trademarked and the center of several unjust small business lawsuits. Boost your immune system and empower yourself with this easy to make apple cider based infusion.

WEEK SIX : March 3rd
— HAND EMBROIDERED MEDICINAL SACHET
Carrying a small pouch of medicinal herbs has been a part of our history as humans. Cavemen have been found frozen, with pockets full of plants. In more recent years, men carried sachets into war for physical and energetic protection. Today, we will make our own medicinal talisman. Via hand embroidering and intentional stuffing a small pouch full of plant magic. These herb filled amulets can be tucked into a special spot or hung around our neck as a reminder that the medicine we seek is always near.
